Sacramento, CA – According to the Sacramento Bee, a 47-year-old Elk Grove motorist was killed in a collision on Highway 99 near Mack Road on the morning of January 29, 2024.
The victim, driving a 2000 Toyota on northbound Highway 99 around 8 AM, decreased his speed due to traffic congestion caused by a 2022 GMC driver, a 53-year-old man from Herald, slowing down ahead of him.
However, behind the Toyota, a 21-year-old man from Patterson driving a 2020 Ford F-320 failed to reduce speed and collided with the rear of the Elk Grove man’s vehicle, causing the Toyota to collide with the GMC truck in front of it.
The Elk Grove motorist sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital. On Tuesday, the CHP learned that the victim had succumbed to his injuries. As of Tuesday afternoon, the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office had not released the victim’s identity, pending notification of family.
Wrongful Death Claims
While no amount of money can bring back those who lose their lives in a vehicular fatality, the emotional burden of their loss is often accompanied by a financial burden that falls on their surviving family members.
A wrongful death claim filed with the insurance provider of an at-fault driver can provide compensation to help cover medical expenses, burial costs, and even the loss of support for dependents of the deceased.
However, because insurance companies carry the incentive to reduce the payout for any claim they cannot deny, the services of a skilled personal injury attorney can prove crucial in securing justice for the deceased.
