Fresno, CA – A fatal collision near the State Route 41 North and State Route 180 East connector on Thursday morning, September 19, 2024, ended the life of one pedestrian, according to CHPFatal.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the accident occurred around 10:37 AM on the right-hand shoulder of the highway. CHP officers closed the transition road from northbound SR-41 to eastbound SR-180 to ensure the safety of emergency personnel on the scene. The road closure lasted for over an hour while the investigation was conducted.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the pedestrian involved. CHP confirmed that the coroner was called to the scene at approximately 10:55 AM. A chaplain also arrived to offer support to those affected by the incident.
The area where the crash occurred, at the busy interchange of two major highways, is a high-traffic zone. Drivers passing through were rerouted as California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) teams worked to clear the scene. By 11:58 AM, the roadway was reopened to traffic.
CHP continues to investigate the events leading up to the fatal collision. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the CHP Fresno office. Further details about the circumstances of the accident will be released as the investigation unfolds.
Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims
Drivers have a specific “Duty of Care” towards pedestrians, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic accidents. This responsibility includes being vigilant for pedestrians near the roadway and, if a fatal collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.
For those who lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.
If the at-fault driver avoids legal consequences, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
