Beech, Elm Ave Crash Kills Man on Electric Bicycle in Orangevale

Orangevale, CA – A man riding an electric bicycle was killed Thursday afternoon, September 19, 2024, in a collision with a pickup truck, according to The Sacramento Bee.

The crash occurred around 4:30 PM at the intersection of Beech and Elm Avenues, just west of Hazel Avenue, in a residential area known for its quiet streets and proximity to parks.

Preliminary reports from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) suggest that the cyclist was heading south on Beech Avenue while a Chevrolet pickup was traveling east on Elm Avenue. Both vehicles entered the intersection simultaneously and collided. The cyclist, whose identity has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the pickup was uninjured, and officers confirmed that alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the victim once family members have been notified.

Bicycle Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims

Drivers have a specific “Duty of Care” towards bicyclists, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic accidents. This responsibility includes being vigilant for bicyclists with whom they share the road and, if a fatal collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.

For those who lose a loved one in a bicycle accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.

If the at-fault driver avoids legal consequences, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
