Bakersfield, CA – Two people were injured in a collision involving a big rig and a pickup truck early Friday morning, September 20, 2024, on Highway 99, just south of California Avenue, according to KBAK.
Around 5:38 AM, the driver of the big rig, who was traveling alone in the Number 4 lane, suddenly veered to the right, striking a tree along the shoulder of the highway. The impact caused the truck to swerve across all lanes of traffic, where it collided with a Ford F-150 pickup truck in the Number 3 lane. The big rig then rolled over onto its side, crashing into the center divider and blocking the Number 1 and Number 2 lanes.
The driver of the big rig refused medical treatment at the scene, while two occupants of the pickup truck were transported to Kern Medical with minor injuries. Their identities have not been released, and their current condition is unknown.
The big rig was hauling carrots, which spilled across the road, further complicating the cleanup efforts.
Alcohol and drugs are not believed to have played a role in the crash, and authorities are continuing to investigate the cause.
Personal Injury Claims
When reckless drivers cause injuries, the cost of recovery should not fall on their victims. Filing a claim with the at-fault driver’s insurance can provide compensation for medical bills and lost wages during recovery.
However, insurance companies often try to deny or minimize claims. That’s why having a knowledgeable personal injury attorney on your side is crucial to securing proper compensation for your injuries.
