Big Rig vs Subaru Crash Kills 2 on California City Blvd near Family Dollar

California City, CA — Two people lost their lives Wednesday afternoon, October 23, 2024, after their vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer on California City Boulevard, according to KBAK.

The California City Police Department reports that the tragic accident occurred around 4:40 PM near the 9500 block, close to the Family Dollar store.

Officers arrived to find a Subaru Outback wedged beneath the side of a big rig. Cal City Fire Department and Hall Ambulance personnel confirmed that both occupants of the Subaru, identified as two adults, were deceased upon arrival. The identities of the victims have not been released as authorities are working to notify their families.

Preliminary investigations, based on evidence and witness statements, indicate that the big rig was in the process of reversing into the Family Dollar parking lot to make a delivery. The Subaru, traveling westbound, reportedly struck the left side of the trailer as it was maneuvering.

Due to the severity of the crash, California Highway Patrol was called to assist with the investigation. Officials confirmed that drugs or alcohol are not believed to have been factors in the collision. California City Police are continuing to investigate the exact cause of the crash.

Wrongful Death Claims

Determining fault in an accident can involve many factors. One key way a personal injury attorney can support families after the loss of a loved one is by helping to establish legal responsibility.

If someone else is found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.

Comparative Negligence

California Law upholds the concept of Comparative Negligence, which allows more than one party to share blame in a personal injury accident. Injured victims may have their compensation reduced if they are found partially to blame.
