Buttonwillow, CA — According to KBAK, 70-year-old Susan Lorraine Insch of Lompoc has been identified as the woman who lost her life in a head-on collision involving a big rig and a Toyota Tundra in which she was a passenger.
The crash took place Monday afternoon, September 23, 2024, around 3:40 PM on Highway 33 near Soda Lake Road.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that a 24-year-old man from Bakersfield was driving a big rig southbound on Highway 33 when, for reasons still under investigation, he crossed into the northbound lane.
His truck collided head-on with a northbound Toyota Tundra carrying Insch and a 72-year-old male driver. Insch, seated in the front passenger seat, suffered fatal injuries in the impact and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities later confirmed her identity, and the Kern County Coroner’s Office has notified her family.
The driver of the Tundra sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Kern Medical in Bakersfield. The driver of the big rig sustained minor injuries and was treated on-site.
CHP does not suspect that drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.
Wrongful Death Claims
Losing a loved one in a traffic accident is devastating, and the pain can be made worse by the financial strain that often follows. Medical bills, funeral costs, and the loss of income to support dependents of the deceased can leave families struggling.
Filing a Wrongful Death claim against those responsible can provide compensation to help with these expenses. However, insurance companies will always try to pay as little as possible, making it difficult for families to receive the full amount they deserve.
This is why having an experienced personal injury attorney is essential so that they can fight to make sure you receive fair compensation and justice for your loved one.
