Del Rey, CA – Two vehicles collided with a big rig during dense fog in rural Fresno County on Tuesday morning, December 3, 2024, according to KSEE.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident occurred at approximately 8:40 AM at the intersection of Jefferson and McCall Avenues, just outside Del Rey.
CHP officials reported that the big rig was traveling north on McCall Avenue when its driver pulled over to the right shoulder to execute a U-turn. While completing the maneuver, the truck driver felt a collision and exited the vehicle to investigate. Moments later, another impact was heard.
Investigators say a third vehicle hauling produce was traveling south on McCall Avenue when it failed to see the big rig’s trailer blocking the roadway due to limited visibility caused by fog. The produce-hauling vehicle struck the trailer and veered into a nearby orchard.
No injuries were reported among the big rig occupants, but individuals in the other vehicles were injured. Authorities have not released the names of those involved.
CHP officers urged drivers to exercise extreme caution in foggy conditions, emphasizing the importance of reduced speeds and heightened awareness. The incident remains under investigation.
Personal Injury Claims
Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Liability rule, several parties can share partial responsibility. A personal injury attorney can play a crucial role in helping victims establish legal responsibility after a traffic accident.
Should evidence reveal that another party contributed to the injuries, victims may be eligible to file a personal injury claim with the responsible party’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover damages such as hospital bills and lost income during recovery.
