Fresno County, CA – A head-on collision on Wednesday morning, December 4, 2024, claimed the life of a woman and injured three others, according to KSEE.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident occurred around 7:30 AM on Utica Avenue, east of Interstate 5, and noted that heavy fog in the area may have been a contributing factor.
According to authorities, the collision involved a Chevrolet Malibu and a Jeep Compass. The Malibu, traveling eastbound, was driven by a man who had two passengers—a woman in the front seat and a man in the rear. The Jeep Compass, heading westbound, was driven by a woman traveling alone.
For reasons still under investigation, the driver of the Malibu veered into the westbound lane and collided head-on with the Jeep. The impact killed the front-seat passenger of the Malibu at the scene. Her name has not been released, pending family notification.
The driver and rear passenger of the Malibu, as well as the driver of the Jeep, sustained moderate injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. CHP officers stated that visibility on the road was severely limited due to dense fog at the time of the crash.
Investigators are working to determine the precise cause of the collision, but they have urged motorists to exercise caution during foggy conditions.
