Turlock, CA ‒ On the morning of Sunday, December 15, 2024, a two-car collision resulted in the deaths of four people and the hospitalization of two others, according to The Modesto Bee.
The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office identified those who lost their lives as:
- 44-year-old Daniel Lourenco
- 45-year-old Jennifer Lourenco
- 22-year-old Uriel Guizar-Negrete
- 16-year-old Madelynn Lourencos
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the fatal accident took place at the intersection of Lander Avenue and Greenway Avenue.
Initial investigations suggest that Guizar-Negrete had been driving on Greenway at a high rate of speed when his 2008 Infiniti struck the Lourenco’s 2023 Jeep. Although Guizar-Negrete may have been exceeding the 55-mile-per-hour speed limit, the intersection did not have a stop sign controlling traffic coming from his direction.
While Daniel and Jennifer Lourenco were pronounced dead at the scene, their daughter Madelynn passed away from her injuries while receiving treatment at a nearby hospital. The other two injured in the crash, the Lourenco’s 19-year-old daughter and 14-year-old son, have been described by authorities as “fighting for their lives.”
CHP investigators continue to examine the circumstances leading up to this tragic collision. While the morning had been foggy, it is not believed to have contributed to the accident. It has not yet been determined whether alcohol or drugs played a role.
