Los Banos, CA ‒ On the night of Monday, December 16, 2024, a two-vehicle crash with a big rig resulted in the death of two adults and the hospitalization of a 1-year-old child, according to The Fresno Bee.
The fatal accident took place at the intersection of Highway 152 and Turner Island Road just before midnight.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that a Freightliner big rig was traveling along Highway 152 when a Kia failed to stop at the intersection when approaching Highway 152 from Turner Island Road.
When the Kia crossed into the path of the Freightliner, the two vehicles collided with disastrous results. The force of the impact sent both vehicles into the Highway 152 median.
Emergency responders arriving at the crash site pronounced the driver and passenger of the Kia dead at the scene. The 1-year-old toddler received transportation to Valley Children’s Hospital as a precautionary measure, while the Freightliner driver remained uninjured in the accident.
The identities of the deceased will be released at a later time, pending the notification of their families. Investigation into the causes of the fatal collision are ongoing. It has not been stated whether driver impairment by drugs or alcohol may have played a role.
