Santa Cruz County, CA – A collision between a motorcycle and a vehicle on Soquel San Jose Road in the Santa Cruz Mountains claimed the life of a 68-year-old Los Gatos man on Wednesday morning, December 18, 2024, according to KSBW.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the crash occurred around 9:41 AM when the man was traveling southbound on a blue 2012 BMW motorcycle at an undetermined speed.
Investigations suggest that the motorcyclist lost control, causing the bike to slide across the asphalt before colliding with a northbound green 2023 Subaru Forester near Old Turnpike Road.
The Subaru, driven by a 64-year-old Aptos man, had two passengers and three dogs on board. None of the Subaru’s occupants were reported injured in the crash.
Despite wearing a helmet, the motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries at the scene. CHP closed Soquel San Jose Road for more than two hours to conduct an investigation into the circumstances of the crash.
Authorities have not determined the cause of the accident and are working to establish whether drugs or alcohol were contributing factors.
Wrongful Death Claims
Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Liability rule, several parties can share partial responsibility. A personal injury attorney can play a crucial role in helping victims establish legal responsibility after a traffic accident.
Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
