Fairfield, CA — A man sustained serious injuries Sunday morning, December 22, 2024, after his pickup truck overturned on a freeway transition ramp in Fairfield, according to CBS13.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the single-vehicle accident took place around 8:30 AM on the transition ramp from westbound Interstate 80 to southbound Interstate 680.
The driver, described as a man in his 40s, was navigating the curve when he lost control of the truck. The vehicle struck the right wall, overturned, and slid along the guardrail before coming to a stop.
The Fairfield Fire Department responded to the scene and worked to extricate the driver, who was trapped inside the wreckage. Photos from the site show multiple firefighters carefully removing debris to free the individual. Once rescued, the man was transported to a hospital with serious injuries.
CHP spokesperson Officer Garrett Pumphrey stated that the cause of the crash remains under investigation, though impairment does not appear to be a factor.
The investigation is ongoing as officials work to determine what led to the crash.
Single-Vehicle Collisions and Comparative Negligence
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility.
California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages. A personal injury attorney can play a critical role in sorting through these details to help victims and their families get the compensation they deserve.
