Redwood City, CA — One person was killed in a crash early Saturday morning, December 21, 2024, in a construction zone on Highway 101 near Whipple Avenue, according to NBC Bay Area.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the crash happened around 1:45 AM on northbound Highway 101.
Subcontractors with Caltrans were setting up cones for a construction project near the Whipple Avenue offramp when a Subaru entered the coned-off area and collided with a work truck.
The workers inside the truck were unharmed, but the driver of the Subaru was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased.
The two far-left lanes of northbound Highway 101 through Redwood City remained closed Saturday for pre-scheduled construction work. CHP is investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision, including why the Subaru veered into the construction zone.
Single-Vehicle Collisions and Comparative Negligence
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility.
California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages. A personal injury attorney can play a critical role in sorting through these details to help victims and their families get the compensation they deserve.
