Pedestrian Crash Injures Paso Robles Man, 74, on Spring St

Paso Robles, CA – A 74-year-old man sustained serious injuries Thursday evening, January 2, 2024, after being struck by a car while walking along the 1800 block of Spring Street, according to The San Luis Obispo Tribune.

The Paso Robles Police Department (PRPD) reports that the accident took place around 7 PM when a silver Toyota Highlander collided with the pedestrian. Emergency responders arrived at the scene following a call reporting the crash.

Police confirmed that the driver of the Highlander remained at the scene and cooperated fully with investigators. Authorities determined that alcohol was not a contributing factor in the incident.

The injured pedestrian, a local resident, was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. While his injuries were described as serious, they were not considered life-threatening, according to a news release from the PRPD.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision is ongoing. Police have not disclosed further details about the cause of the crash or whether any citations were issued.

Duty of Care Toward Pedestrians

Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic accidents. This responsibility includes being vigilant for pedestrians near the roadway and, if a collision occurs, staying with the victim to ensure they get proper medical treatment and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.

For those injured in a pedestrian accident, filing a Personal Injury claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills and other related damages.

Should the at-fault driver avoid legal consequences, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
