Crash with Horse at Houghton, Ashe Rd Injures Bakersfield Motorcyclist

Bakersfield, CA – According to KGET, a collision between a motorcycle and a loose horse on Sunday evening, January 5, 2025, left a motorcyclist with severe injuries and raised questions about how the animal ended up on the roadway.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the crash occurred at approximately 6:09 PM at the intersection of Houghton Road and Ashe Road.

The rider, a man on a 2021 Harley Davidson, was traveling eastbound on Houghton Road when a loose horse suddenly entered his path. The impact threw the motorcyclist from his bike, leaving him with major injuries.

CHP officers reported finding him down in the traffic lanes. The horse, which was discovered on the side of the road, appeared to have sustained injuries as well, though its condition was not detailed.

The incident was initially classified as a routine traffic collision but was later upgraded to a major injury crash at 7:15 PM, according to CHP logs. Investigators have confirmed that neither alcohol nor drugs played a role in the crash.

The identity of the motorcyclist has not yet been released. Authorities are working to determine how the horse became loose and to locate its owner.

Personal Injury Claims

Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Liability rule, several parties can share partial responsibility. A personal injury attorney can play a crucial role in helping victims establish legal responsibility after a traffic accident.

Should evidence reveal that another party contributed to the injuries, victims may be eligible to file a personal injury claim with the responsible party’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover damages such as hospital bills and lost income during recovery.
