Los Angeles, CA – A third wildfire erupted late Tuesday night, January 7, 2025, as firefighters continue to battle the Palisades Fire in the western county and the Eaton Fire near Pasadena, according to KCRA.
The Los Angeles Fire Department reports that the Hurst Fire, initially called the Sylmar Fire, broke out at approximately 10:10 PM in the Sylmar area. The blaze ignited near Yarnell Street, north of Foothill Boulevard, in the San Fernando Valley.
As of Wednesday morning, January 8, the fire had consumed over 500 acres, rapidly expanding from its initial estimate of 100 acres reported late Tuesday night. The Angeles National Forest confirmed that the flames had jumped the 210 Freeway, intensifying concerns for nearby communities.
Mandatory evacuation orders have been issued for areas north of the 210 Freeway, stretching from Roxford Street to the split of Interstate 5 and the 14 Freeway. Additional evacuation orders are in effect for regions on the opposite side of I-5. Officials have stressed the seriousness of the orders, noting an immediate threat to life in the affected areas.
Despite its rapid growth, officials reported Wednesday morning that the fire had not yet crossed Interstate 5. Firefighters are working to contain the blaze and prevent further spread.
The cause of the Hurst Fire remains under investigation.
Compensation Available for Wildfire Victims
Those whose lives have been impacted by the recent wildfires may discover that their homeowner’s insurance will not cover all the costs to rebuild their homes and replace their possessions.
But when government agencies are found responsible for causing wildfires, victims shouldn’t have to bear the burden of recovery on their own. A California wildfire lawyer can guide victims through the process of seeing that negligent parties are held responsible for the damage they cause.
