Tulare, CA – A 32-year-old Tulare woman was struck and killed in a hit-and-run on Sunday evening near Cross Avenue and Mooney Boulevard, according to KSEE.
The Tulare Police Department reports that the accident took place around 8:15 PM when officers responded to a 911 call reporting a deceased individual in the roadway.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the woman, who was unresponsive despite life-saving efforts. Authorities determined she had been walking back from a store when she was struck by a northbound vehicle on Mooney Boulevard.
The driver, identified as 26-year-old Dominick Nunez of Visalia, initially fled the scene but later returned. Police stated that Nunez admitted to leaving the scene out of fear. While he cooperated with the investigation, he was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run. Officers indicated that had Nunez stayed at the scene initially, he likely would not have been arrested.
Investigators suspect that other vehicles also struck the woman and fled. Police are urging anyone with information about these additional drivers to contact the Tulare Police Department.
Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims
Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic accidents. This responsibility includes being vigilant for pedestrians near the roadway and, if a fatal collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.
For those who lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.
Should the at-fault driver avoid legal consequences, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
