Las Lomas, CA – A pedestrian identified as 40-year-old Rogelio Hernandez Huerta of Watsonville was killed early Friday morning, January 17, 2025, in a collision involving two vehicles, according to KSBW.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported the incident occurred around 5:29 AM on Hall Road near Las Lomas Drive.
According to the CHP, preliminary investigations suggest that the 40-year-old pedestrian ran from the north shoulder of Hall Road toward the south shoulder, crossing into the path of an eastbound white Toyota pickup truck. The man struck the driver’s side of the vehicle and fell onto the road.
The driver of the pickup immediately stopped, but moments later, an eastbound gray Ford sedan approached the scene. The sedan struck the man as he was lying in the road.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
The drivers of both vehicles remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. The CHP noted that the incident remains under investigation, and no factors such as alcohol or drugs have been reported as contributing to the collision.
Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims
Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic accidents. This responsibility includes being vigilant for pedestrians near the roadway and, if a fatal collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.
For those who lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.
Should the at-fault driver avoid legal consequences, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
