Oxnard, CA – A collision at the intersection of Victoria Avenue and Doris Avenue on Thursday night, January 16, 2025, left one person dead and another critically injured, according to KEYT.
Officers of the Oxnard Police Department responded to the scene just before 10:00 PM and discovered a heavily damaged Toyota and Nissan at the intersection. The roadway was closed for an unspecified period while authorities treated the injured.
Unfortunately, a passenger in the Toyota succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash. The Toyota’s 55-year-old driver suffered critical injuries but is currently in stable condition, police reported.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a 19-year-old man driving the Nissan was traveling north on Victoria Avenue when his vehicle collided with the Toyota. Police believe both speed and alcohol contributed to the crash.
The Nissan driver sustained minor injuries and was arrested after exhibiting signs of alcohol impairment. He was later booked into the Ventura County Jail.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
Wrongful Death Claims
Even if a fatal accident doesn’t lead to criminal charges, families who lose a loved one can still file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This compensation can help cover medical bills, funeral costs, and lost income that the family depended on.
However, insurance companies will always try to pay as little as possible, making it difficult for families to receive the full amount they deserve. So, having an experienced personal injury attorney is essential to receive fair compensation and justice for your loved one.
