Cuyama, CA — A motorcycle crash off Highway 166 on Saturday afternoon, January 18, 2025, left one person dead and another seriously injured, according to The San Luis Obispo Tribune.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) Santa Maria office reported that the incident occurred around 2:30 PM between Spanish Ranch and Chimineas Ranch. Both individuals involved were riding on the same motorcycle when it lost control, veered off the roadway, and collided with a fence.
Emergency responders pronounced one person dead at the scene. The second individual, identified as the motorcycle’s driver, sustained major injuries and was transported to Marian Regional Medical Center by Santa Barbara County Fire crews for treatment.
CHP investigators reported that alcohol is suspected to have played a role in the crash. The motorcycle reportedly lost control on a curve, leading to the collision and subsequent injuries.
Cal Fire SLO, Santa Barbara County Fire, and San Luis Obispo County Fire all responded to the scene to assist. Firefighters provided initial treatment before the injured individual was airlifted for further care.
The CHP continues to investigate the circumstances of the crash and is working to determine additional contributing factors.
Passenger Liability
Driver liability insurance covers both those outside the vehicle and passengers inside. While it can be emotionally difficult to file a Wrongful Death claim against someone close to the victim, the financial challenges after an accident can be overwhelming.
A skilled personal injury attorney can help families pursue proper compensation for their loss by handling these legal complexities and negotiating with insurance companies, who always try to reduce payouts on claims they cannot deny.
