Richard Allen Ray, 36, Killed in Pedestrian Crash on Hwy 50 near 15th St in Sacramento

Sacramento, CA — Authorities have identified the pedestrian killed Sunday night, January 19, 2025, on eastbound Highway 50 near 15th Street as 36-year-old Richard Allen Ray, according to ABC10.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the fatal collision occurred around 10 PM when Ray was in the number three lane and was struck by a red Kia Forte traveling at approximately 65 mph.

The driver of the Kia reportedly saw an object in the roadway but could not determine what it was until the impact, officials said.

Ray was hit by the left front of the Kia, suffering fatal injuries. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident, and the driver and passengers in the Kia were uninjured. CHP reported that neither alcohol nor drugs appear to have been factors in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities encourage anyone with information about the incident to contact CHP South Sacramento.

Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims

Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic accidents. This responsibility includes being vigilant for pedestrians near the roadway and, if a fatal collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.

For those who lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.

Should the at-fault driver avoid legal consequences, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.

If you or someone you love was harmed in an accident like the one described here, feel free to contact Maison Law for any questions or to receive a no-cost, no-obligation case assessment.
