Bakersfield, CA — A woman was killed early Saturday morning, January 18, 2025, in a single-vehicle crash near the intersection of Old River Road and White Lane, according to KBAK.
Officers of the Bakersfield Police Department responded to reports of the crash around 3:46 AM on January 18, 2025. Upon arrival, they discovered a black Ford SUV in the roadway.
Preliminary findings indicate that the vehicle was traveling southbound on Old River Road when it veered off the roadway and collided with a tree in the median.
The woman, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity has not yet been released and will be determined by the Kern County Coroner’s Office.
Investigators are still working to determine the exact cause of the crash, but speed is believed to have been a contributing factor.
Authorities urge anyone with information about the incident to contact the Bakersfield Police Department as the investigation remains ongoing.
Single-Vehicle Collisions and Comparative Negligence
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility.
California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages. A personal injury attorney can play a critical role in sorting through these details to help victims and their families get the compensation they deserve.
