Jia Lin Zheng, 66, Arrested after Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash at Sixth, Harrison St in San Francisco

San Francisco, CA — A multi-vehicle collision in the South of Market neighborhood on Sunday evening, January 19, 2025, left one person and a dog dead, several others injured, and a 66-year-old man identified as Jia Lin Zheng arrested, according to NBC Bay Area

The accident occurred at approximately 6:10 PM at the intersection of Sixth and Harrison Streets, involving seven vehicles and eight people.

A black Tesla driven by Zheng reportedly caused the chain reaction crash, striking multiple vehicles, including a self-driving Waymo car, which sustained damage, according to the San Francisco Fire Department.

Zheng was detained at the scene and later booked into jail on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, reckless driving causing injury, speeding, and felony vandalism. Police confirmed the suspect remained hospitalized briefly before being transferred to jail.

One person and a dog were pronounced dead at the scene. Several other victims were transported to local hospitals for treatment. Authorities have not released details about their conditions or identities.

Investigators are also examining whether the same Tesla was involved in a hit-and-run crash on northbound Interstate 280 moments before the fatal incident. They are working to determine if drugs or alcohol contributed to the collision.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information about the crash is encouraged to contact the San Francisco Police Department.

Wrongful Death Claims

Even if a fatal accident doesn’t lead to criminal charges, families who lose a loved one can still file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This compensation can help cover medical bills, funeral costs, and lost income that the family depended on.

However, insurance companies will always try to pay as little as possible, making it difficult for families to receive the full amount they deserve. So, having an experienced personal injury attorney is essential to receive fair compensation and justice for your loved one.
