Fiery Crash with Big Rig Kills Driver on I-5 near Twin Cities Rd in Walnut Grove

Walnut Grove, CA — A fiery crash on northbound Interstate 5 in south Sacramento County claimed the life of a driver on the morning of Tuesday morning, January 21, 2025, according to The Sacramento Bee.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the accident took place just before 8:30 AM south of Twin Cities Road.

Authorities said a Lexus veered off the roadway and struck the rear of a big rig parked on the shoulder. The impact caused both the Lexus and the trailer of the big rig, which was loaded with food products, to become engulfed in flames.

Emergency responders pronounced the Lexus driver, who was the sole occupant, dead at the scene. The driver of the big rig was unharmed.

Investigators are still working to determine why the Lexus left the roadway and why the big rig was parked on the shoulder.

Wrongful Death Claims

Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Liability rule, several parties can share partial responsibility. A personal injury attorney can play a crucial role in helping victims establish legal responsibility after a traffic accident.

Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
