Crash with Big Rig at 17th, Kansas Ave Kills 3 in Lemoore

Lemoore, CA – Late in the evening on Saturday, January 25, 2025, three passengers in a Toyota Camry lost their lives following a collision with a big rig, according to KSEE.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident took place around 11:43 PM at the intersection of 17th and Kansas Avenues.

Investigators determined that a 2020 Peterbilt 579 was traveling east on Kansas Avenue while the Toyota Camry, carrying five occupants, was heading south on 17th Avenue.

According to CHP, the Camry’s driver failed to yield at the intersection, resulting in the Peterbilt colliding with the passenger side of the sedan. The impact forced the Camry off the road in a southeast direction, where it struck a metal pole before coming to a stop.

While the driver of the big rig was uninjured, two rear passengers in the Camry were pronounced deceased at the scene. A third passenger, also seated in the rear, was rushed to a nearby hospital but later succumbed to their injuries.

The driver of the Camry sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. A front-seat passenger received medical attention at the scene and was released.

CHP has not released the identities of those involved, and the collision remains under investigation.

Failure to Yield

In California, as in other states, “failure to yield” means that you didn’t give the right of way to the right person at the right time. As such, failure to yield or stop is closely related to the “right of way.” When a motorist fails to yield, stop or otherwise avoid an accident and causes a crash, he or she can be held liable for injuries and damages suffered by a victim.

Passenger Liability

Driver liability insurance covers both those outside the vehicle and passengers inside. While it can be emotionally difficult to file a Wrongful Death claim against someone close to the victim, the financial challenges after an accident can be overwhelming.

A skilled personal injury attorney can help families pursue proper compensation for their loss by handling these legal complexities and negotiating with insurance companies, who always try to reduce payouts on claims they cannot deny.
