Stockton, CA — In the early hours of January 28, 2025, a single-vehicle rollover crash resulted in the death of a driver and injuries to a passenger, according to ABC10.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 12:05 AM on southbound Interstate 5, north of the transition to eastbound State Route 4.
A Chevrolet Suburban traveling southbound left the roadway for unknown reasons and overturned multiple times down an embankment. The driver was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger sustained minor injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Emergency responders, including the Stockton Fire Department, arrived at the scene, and authorities temporarily shut down the area while they conducted their investigation.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash and have not determined whether speed, impairment, or other factors played a role.
Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the California Highway Patrol.
Single-Vehicle Collisions and Passenger Liability
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
Driver liability insurance covers both those outside the vehicle and passengers inside. While it can be emotionally difficult to file a Personal Injury claim against someone close to the victim, the financial challenges after an accident can be overwhelming.
A skilled personal injury attorney can help families pursue proper compensation for their loss by handling these legal complexities and negotiating with insurance companies, who always try to reduce payouts on claims they cannot deny.
