Maria Morales, 41, of Salinas Killed in Pedestrian Crash near Abbott St, Harris Rd

Salinas, CA — In the early hours of Tuesday, January 28, 2025, a pedestrian identified by the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office as 41-year-old Maria Morales of Salinas was struck and killed by an ambulance, according to KSBW.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 3:29 AM on Abbott Street, south of Harris Road.

A white and red Ford Transit ambulance owned by American Medical Response was traveling southbound when Morales reportedly stepped into the roadway. The driver, a 33-year-old from Templeton, swerved in an attempt to avoid her, but the front right side of the ambulance struck Morales.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but Morales died from her injuries before she could be transported to a hospital.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. It is unclear whether impairment, speed, or other factors contributed to the incident.
