Monterey County, CA – On Tuesday night, February 4, 2025, a crash involving a U-Haul van driven by 38-year-old DUI suspect Anthony Harvey of Monterey County, resulted in two fatalities, according to KSBW.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident occurred around 11:47 PM on Highway 101 near Jolon Road.

Harvey was driving a 2023 Ford Transit U-Haul when he lost control of the vehicle and it overturned down a steep embankment. Emergency responders transported Harvey to Sierra Vista Regional Hospital, where he was determined to be under the influence of drugs. He was later booked into Monterey County Jail on suspicion of DUI.

The van was carrying three passengers. The identities of the two rear passengers, a male and female, have not been released, but both were fatally injured in the crash due to blunt force trauma. The male front-seat passenger, who was critically injured, has also not been named.

The crash is under investigation, and authorities are continuing to emphasize the dangers of impaired driving, particularly during poor weather conditions.

Passenger Liability

Driver liability insurance covers both those outside the vehicle and passengers inside. While it can be emotionally difficult to file a Wrongful Death claim against someone close to the victim, the financial challenges after an accident can be overwhelming.

A skilled personal injury attorney can help families pursue proper compensation for their loss by handling these legal complexities and negotiating with insurance companies, who always try to reduce payouts on claims they cannot deny.
