Keyes, CA – The victim of a fatal single-vehicle crash on Monday afternoon, February 3, 2025, has been identified as 56-year-old Roy Bilyeu, according to The Modesto Bee.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 2:56 PM on South Washington Road, north of Lucinda Avenue, near Spratling Middle School.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Bilyeu was driving a 2003 white Chevrolet pickup northbound when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle veered off the east side of the road. The pickup continued in a northeasterly direction, crashing into several nut trees before coming to a stop. Emergency responders arrived to find the vehicle with major damage.
Bilyeu was pronounced dead at the scene and later identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office
Authorities temporarily closed the roadway between Lucinda Avenue and East Redwood Road during the investigation. Traffic delays were minimal.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and officials have not determined whether drugs, alcohol, or speed were factors. It is also unclear if Bilyeu was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Single-Vehicle Collisions and Comparative Negligence
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility.
California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages. A personal injury attorney can play a critical role in sorting through these details to help victims and their families get the compensation they deserve.
