Monterey County, CA – The two passengers who lost their lives in a suspected DUI collision involving a U-Haul van on the night of Tuesday, February 4, 2025, have been identified, according to KSBW.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident took place around 11:47 PM on Highway 101 near Jolon Road.
Authorities say 38-year-old Anthony Harvey was driving a 2023 Ford Transit U-Haul van southbound at 65 miles per hour when he lost control of the vehicle. The van veered off the roadway and overturned down a steep embankment before coming to a stop on its wheels.
Three passengers were inside the van at the time of the crash. According to investigators, a male front-seat passenger suffered major injuries, while the two rear passengers, who sustained fatal injuries, have been identified as:
- 35-year-old Sequan McKensie Taylor of Tacoma, Washington
- 27-year-old Kayla Marie Smith of Spanaway, Washington
Emergency responders transported Harvey to Sierra Vista Regional Hospital, where he was found to be under the influence of drugs.
After being medically cleared, he was booked into Monterey County Jail and is now facing multiple charges, including murder and DUI causing bodily injury.
