Big Rig Crash at I-80, Leisure Town Rd Kills 1 in Vacaville

Vacaville, CA – In the early morning of Tuesday, April 22, 2025, a crash involving a big rig resulted in the death of a 58-year-old man, according to CHP Fatal, with additional reporting from ABC10.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident occurred around 4:19 AM on the eastbound side of Interstate 80, just past the Leisure Town Road on-ramp in Vacaville.

Authorities said the victim was inside a Mazda CX-30 that was stopped and blocking the number one lane for unknown reasons, with its left turn signal still flashing. Moments later, a big rig collided with the stationary vehicle.

The impact prompted a full closure of all eastbound lanes, triggering a Sig Alert that lasted through the morning commute. By approximately 7:06 AM, all lanes had reopened.

The deceased was identified as a 58-year-old man from Stockton. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The driver of the big rig, a 59-year-old man from Pacifica, remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the CHP.

Wrongful Death Claims

Losing a loved one in a traffic accident is devastating, and the pain can be made worse by the financial strain that often follows. Medical bills, funeral costs, and the loss of income to support dependents of the deceased can leave families struggling. Filing a Wrongful Death claim against those responsible can provide compensation to help with these expenses.

Comparative Negligence

California Law upholds the concept of Comparative Negligence, which allows more than one party to share blame in a personal injury accident. Injured victims may have their compensation reduced if they are found partially responsible.
